This is a WW2 issued American Defense Medal in original issue box, dated 1945, complete with pinback ribbon bar and enamelled lapel pin, not to be confused with later issue pieces of inferior quality.​​​ The box is in perfect condition, and this set retains the original protective tissue paper keeping the contents in mint condition, and also retains the grease-proof packet for the lapel pin. This medal was awarded to those military personnel who were on active duty between the dates of the start of WW2 and the formal declaration of war by the United States, being September 8th 1939 and December 7th 1941.
