US Air Force Commendation Medal in presentation case, Vietnam War issue /1 **SOLD**

This is a genuine USAF Commendation Medal in original presentation case from the Vietnam War period. Created in 1960 it was awarded for meritorious service not in combat. Originally the award was instituted in 1945 for the Army alone, but in 1948 the award name changed to simply the Commendation Medal as award criteria was extended to Air Force personnel as well as the Army, but in 1960 the Air Force got it's own medal as seen here. In 1964, acts of valour in combat were included for this award, in which case a V symbol was attached to the ribbon. The medal is in excellent condition, but there is a mark on the ribbon bar, and a few marks on the removeable base, but otherwise the case is very good, obtained from the USA.
