Post World War 2 bayonets and Knives
This is a communist Romanian made bayonet and scabbard, designed to fit the Russian Kalashnikov AKM assault rifle. A very useful tool, not only a good fighting knife, with sawback, but also doubling as a wire-cutter when the blade is engaged with the steel scabbard. This is a Type 1, which came out in 1959 to fit the new improved AKM assault rifle, and was as revolutionary as the AKM itself. It was later improved further into the Type 2, which had a steel pommel rather than a plastic one, as the plastic was more susceptible to damage, and a fully plastic scabbard rather than a steel one. A steel scabbard was nice, but not ideal when the wire-cutters were used on an electrified fence, even with the rubber sleeve! Comes with distinctive Romanian leather frog and hand strap. In excellent condition, matching serial numbers to bayonet and scabbard.
