Obsolete calibre Steyr Kropatschek M1886 infantry rifle

This is a Steyr-Kropatschek M1886 rifle, designed by Alfred von Kropatschek in 1886 and built at the Steyr factory in Austria.  Influenced by the German Mauser M71/84, this rifle was adopted by forces of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and the French Navy, where it in turn influenced the Lebel M1886. It was supplied in the greatest numbers to the Portuguese Army and Navy, of which this is one, and it also served as a second-line weapon with reserve forces during WW1. This example is in good sound condition, with good furniture and metalwork. Matching serial numbers to barrel and breech. Featuring under-barrel tubular magazine, state-of-the-art in the 1880's,  it was soon to be surpassed by rifles like the Mauser G98 and Lee-Enfield Rifle no1. Of obsolete calibre, this rifle is fully functional, so will cock and dry-fire and fully strip, and does not need a firearms licence for ownership.
