Pre-WW1 rifles
This is a Steyr-Kropatschek M1886 rifle, designed by Alfred von Kropatschek in 1886 and built at the Steyr factory in Austria. Influenced by the German Mauser M71/84, this rifle was adopted by forces of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and the French Navy, where it in turn influenced the Lebel M1886. It was supplied in the greatest numbers to the Portuguese Army and Navy and it also served as a second-line weapon with reserve forces during WW1. This example is in good condition, with most of the blacking to the metal parts and good hardwood furniture including the rare and often absent top handguard and original cleaning rod. Nice OEWG cartouche on butt. Matched serial numbers to barrel, breech and buttstock. Featuring under-barrel tubular magazine, state-of-the-art in the 1880's, it was soon to be surpassed by later rifles. Of obsolete calibre, this rifle is fully functional, so will cock and dry-fire and fully strip, and does not need a firearms licence for ownership. Our Price: £825.00 |
