WW2 equipment
This is an AK 39 compass issued to german Luftwaffe aircrew during WW2 to be used in the event they have to vacate their aircraft over enemy territory. It could be worn on the wrist, or around the thigh using an extension to the strap. This compass is in full working order with good strap, but originally would have been filled with a spirit to dampen the action of the pointer inside the case. As with many of these now, the spirit has long since leaked away but that has not stopped it performing it's function as a compass.
