This is the No4 spike bayonet, better known as the 'pig-sticker', as fitted to the British Lee-Enfield rifle no4 mk1 and its derivatives, in good sound condition along with it's scabbard. This is the final mark of the spike bayonet, and had a socket constructed of sheet steel sections rather than a forging. Only 196,000 were made, all by Joseph Lucas from 1944 to 1945, before becoming obsolete in 1946. M/158 was their dispersal code which is usually stamped on the top of the socket, with a forging mark '1' on the shaft, which was a separate piece from the socket. Fitted into a late war mk3 plastic scabbard in very good condition.
