Inert 7.62 x 51mm NATO cartridge, RARE experimental tracer L5A3 **SOLD**

This is an inert and totally safe 7.62mm calibre cartridge, full name 7.62 x 51mm NATO, or 7.62NATO for short, and was developed in the 1950's as a small arms cartridge for NATO forces. Used by US forces in their M14 rifle and M60 machine gun in the late 1950's, it gave way to the later smaller 5.56x45mm NATO for use in the M16 rifle. This particular round is a rare experimental tracer round, headstamped L5A3 and dated 1968, with a colour code on the base. The copper head is also colour coded red and purple with a knurled ring. Unstruck and neutralised primers.Only a handful of these very rare rounds available, and they can be seen on the Imperial War Museum website.
