This is an inert 5.56mm calibre cartridge with 45mm length case, known as the 5.56x45mm NATO or simply 5.56NATO. It is the standard cartridge for NATO forces, as well as many non-NATO ones, used in the SA80 family of assault rifles, and was developed in the USA for the M16 rifle for use in the Vietnam War and after.
