German S1898/05 S n/A 'Butcher sawback-removed' bayonet and scabbard

This is the infamous 'Butcher sawback' bayonet, but with the sawback ground off, as used by the pioneering troops of the Germany Army during WW1. Also carried by NCOs as a symbol of rank, the object of the sawback teeth was for clearance of light branches, not for the inflicting of more horrific injury as wartime propaganda had made out. This led to sawbacks being removed for fear of reprisal from allied troops if captured with one. Production of this bayonet ran from 1915 to 1917 only. This particular example is in very good condition, with a good scabbard, just one dent worth mentioning on the back, fraktur marked on lip.  Very good clean blade, no sharpening, perfect point and edge, marked J.H.Becker, Solingen on the ricasso. Very good wooden grips and release button and nicely polished crossguard and pommel, possibly for parade use. An unusual and desirable WW1 bayonet.
