German S1898/05 n/A 'Butcher' bayonet and scabbard, 1916 dated

This is the infamous 'Butcher' bayonet as used by the front-line troops of the German Army during WW1. Full designation for this bayonet is S (Seitengewehr meaning side-arm) 1898/05 n/A. 1898 being the year of introduction of the basic bayonet and 1905 the year of modification to that current form. n/A stands for 'neuer Art', meaning 'new type' or 2nd type, due to reduced muzzle ears and flashguard above the grips. Production of this n/A bayonet ran from 1915 to 1917 only. This particular example is in very good condition, with excellent edge and  point, no sharpening. Light signs of corrosion to crossguard or pommel where black painted finish has chipped off. Good wooden grips. Marked C.G.Haenel Suhl on one side of the ricasso, and 16 under the imperial crown of Wilhelm on the spine. The scabbard is complete with a few dents, and most of original painted finish. A very desirable WW1 bayonet in lovely condition, perfect for your Gewehr 98.
