German S1898/05 n/A 'Butcher' bayonet and scabbard, 1915 dated **SOLD**

This is the infamous 'Butcher' bayonet as used by the front-line troops of the German Army during WW1. Full designation for this bayonet is S (Seitengewehr meaning side-arm) 1898/05 n/A. 1898 being the year of introduction of the basic bayonet and 1905 the year of modification to that current form. n/A stands for 'neuer Art', meaning 'new type' or 2nd type, due to reduced muzzle ears and flashguard above the grips. Production of this n/A bayonet ran from 1915 to 1917 only. This particular example is in very good condition, with excellent edge and point, and only minimal marking on the steel. Minimal corrosion to crossguard or pommel, and good wooden grips with only a small bit of damage on one side. Marked Waffenfabrik Mauser A.G, Oberndorf a.N, on one side of the ricasso, and 15 under the imperial crown of Wilhelm on the spine. The scabbard is complete and undamaged with no dents, also faintly inspection marked on the lip. A very desirable WW1 bayonet in lovely condition, made by the most famous maker.
