German S1884/98 II sawback bayonet, scabbard and frog, unit marked

This is the second pattern 'sawback' M1884/98 knife bayonet as used by pioneering troops and artillerymen amongst others in the German Army during WW1, an alternative to the 'butcher' M1898/05 sword bayonet, for fitment to the Gew 98 rifle and carbine. Marked Gottlieb Hammesfahr Solingen Foche on the left ricasso, and Deutsche Maschinenfabrik A-G Duisburg on the other, with a fraktur inspection mark on the blade spine and the pommel, this particular example is in very good condition, with excellent edge and point and sawback teeth, no sharpening, though with some pitting on the blade. Very good wooden grips and release button. Unit marked on the crossguard 3. M.G.B. 460 18, perhaps Maschinengewehr Bataillon? The scabbard is in very good condition, nicely blacked with no dents, fraktur to frogstud and fitted into genuine leather WW2 'cavalry' frog, faintly marked Wien (Vienna) 1939 to the rear, one rivet missing but otherwise very good condition. A very desirable WW1 bayonet in super condition, perfect for your Gewehr or Kar 98.
