German S1884/98 II bayonet and scabbard, 1916 dated **SOLD**

This is the second pattern M1884/98 knife bayonet as used by the front-line troops of the German Army during WW1, an alternative to the 'butcher' M1898/05 sword bayonet, for fitment to the Gewehr 98 rifle. The third pattern being produced in the interwar years and issued with the K98 rifle of WW2. This particular example is in very good sound condition, with excellent edge and point and no sharpening. Marked F.Herder A. Sn, Solingen on the ricasso, and dated 16 under the imperial crown of Wilhelm II on the spine. Fraktur marked to spine and pommel. Very good wooden grips and pleasant patina to the pommel, flashguard and crossguard, with good release button. The scabbard is in very good condition, most of blacking remaining and no dents worth mentioning, stamped 1877 on the throat. A desirable WW1 bayonet in very nice condition, perfect for your Gewehr 98.
