German Ersatz M1914 sawback bayonet, scabbard and frog **SOLD**
German Ersatz M1914 sawback bayonet, scabbard and frog **SOLD**
This is the first pattern Ersatz Model 1914 'sawback' knife bayonet, which was issued to Prussian soldiers for fitment to their Gew 98 rifles and carbines. With a 313mm blade, only around one million of these bayonets were made from 1914 to 1915, with 6% of production having the sawback. Marked Samson Werk on the right ricasso, and fraktur stamped on the spine of the blade and pommel, this particular example is in good condition, with excellent edge and point and sawback teeth, with no sharpening. Sound wooden grips with some minor damage, sound release button. Dark patina of age to the simple crossguard and pommel, similar finish to scabbard which has a number of minor dents. Fitted into a leather frog, very good condition, authenticity unknown. A very desirable and unusual WW1 bayonet in good condition, perfect for your Gewehr or Kar 98.
