French Lebel M1886/35 short cruciform bayonet and scabbard **SOLD**

This is the cruciform type 'epee' bayonet as fitted to the Lebel M1886 and Berthier M1907 rifles that equipped the French Army, and those of it's colonies, during WW1 and also into WW2. Introduced in 1886, this bayonet featured a hook quillon which soon disappeared during WW1, and was then reduced in length with a reduced length scabbard in the mid 1930s, as 'modern' military tactics no longer favoured a long bayonet . This particular example is in very good condition. The 34.5cm blade is unbent and in good condition. The scabbard is also in good straight condition with some light pitting in the steel, and the blade slides in smoothly. Most of the painted finish remains on the steel scabbard. A very nice WW2 bayonet to compliment your Lebel or Berthier.
