French Chassepot M1866 sword bayonet and scabbard, 1871 dated, matching serial numbers **SOLD**

This is the French yataghan curved sword bayonet as fitted to the Chassepot M1866 rifle. A good straight blade with good point and lightly sharpened edge with minimal signs of corrosion. Dark patina to cross-guard, release spring and quillon, but no pitting. Similar finish to matching serial numbered
scabbard, with minimal pitting towards the finial but no dents so easily restored. Nice brass grips with working release button. Marked St.Etienne March 1871 for the place and time of manufacture, placing it during the
Franco-Prussian War. A classic sword bayonet in good sound condition with the rare benefit of having it's original scabbard after nearly 150 years!
