This is a communist East German made bayonet and scabbard, designed to fit the Russian Kalashnikov AKM assault rifle. A very useful tool, not only a good fighting knife, but also doubling as a wire-cutter when the blade is engaged with the scabbard. This is a Type 1, which came out in 1959 to fit the new improved AKM assault rifle. It was later improved further into the Type 2, which had a steel pommel rather than a plastic one, and a fully plastic scabbard rather than a steel one. In very good condition, comes with good grey leather belt-hanger and wrist strap. The leather has a crack as can be seen but is fully sound. A nice Communist Block bayonet.
