Deactivated SMLE Mk3*, Enfield made, 1917 dated, some matched s/numbers **SOLD**

This is the standard infantry rifle of the British Army and the forces of it's Empire during WW1, the  Lee-Enfield rifle no1 mk3 made at the Enfield factory. The butt socket is clearly stamped with the Royal Cypher of George V, indicating military issue, the maker Enfield, date of 1917, and the model SHT.L.E. III*, (the * means a wartime change to the mkIII specification to speed-up production). The furniture is in good original condition, complete and undamaged, except for the usual knocks and armourer's repairs, fitting and matching very nicely. The steelwork is also in very good condition, retaining nearly all of it's original blacked finish, and has matching serial numbers to breech, bolt and barrel, also 1917 dated. The nosecap serial matches the forestock, and the rearsights have been retro-fitted with the more desirable mkIII windage adjustable type. An original example of this iconic rifle perfect for the reinactor or collector alike. Generally known as the SMLE mk3, this rifle has moving trigger and bolt, but will not dry-fire under current EU regs. It is strippable with detachable magazine and comes with an original webbing sling and a full clip of inert rounds. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to EU specification.
