Deactivated Mauser Model 1895 South African OVS marked rifle SOLD

This is one of a 10,000 rifle order made by the South African Republic just before the Boer War of 1899-1901. Built by DWM, and marked Deutsche Waffen-und-Munitionsfabriken, Berlin, on the left side of the receiver along with O.V.S. for the Orange Free State ( in Dutch ), it is a Model 1895 chambered for a 7 x 57mm cartridge. This example is in very good condition, all matching numbers including the bolt, with a lovely patina to the steel and super high quality hardwood stock with hardly a mark on it. As was not unusual for these Boer rifles, the owner has carved his name on the left side of the forestock. A rifle with a huge amount of history in excellent condition. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK specification.
