This is the standard german infantry rifle of WW2, full name the Mauser 'Karabiner 98 kurz', or K98k,(karabiner meaning carbine and kurz meaning short) having a shorter barrel than the earlier 'Gewehr 98'   that was developed in 1898.  This rifle is marked 'bcd' for the Gustloff-Werke, Weimar factory in Germany, with a date of '4' for 1944 on the receiver and is in good sound condition. It is not one of the many weapons captured by the Russians during WW2 and put into storage. Marked Mod. 98 on the left side of the receiver with some good clear Nazi eagles and Waffenamt stamps round the breech area, this rifle has full matching serial numbers to the bolt and bolt components, which is very unusual. Also, this rifle has all the right components for this year of manufacture. Ie grooved foresight for sight-hood, correct front bands, correct laminated stock and cupped butt-plate, and also has an original cleaning rod. The butt carries the correct  Waffenamt and 'Heer' (Army) stamp. Though the finish to the steel has suffered a little, this is a very authentic and unmessed with example of this classic infantry rifle. It cocks and dry fires, and is fully strippable, and comes with one clip of inert 7.92mm cartridges, with more available in the 'Inert Ammunition' section at £1.50 each. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK specification.
