Deactivated Mauser Gew.98 infantry rifle, 1917 dated, C.G.Haenal made **SOLD**

This is the standard infantry rifle of the German Army during WW1, the iconic Mauser Gewehr 98, or more simply G98. The '98' relates to the first year of manufacture, 1898, and production continued till 1935 when it was replaced by the equally famous K98 carbine, both chambering the 7.92mm x 57mm cartridge. This particular example is in lovely authentic condition with super hardwood stock, showing only minor marks, and lots of clear Imperial cartouches on both stock and the breech. Good steel retaining most of it's original finish, and receiver shows maker and date as C.G. Haenel of Suhl, 1917. Of historical interest is the letters EWB engraved in the butt, standing for the Einwohnerwehr-Bayern, or the Bavarian Civil Defence, who were a far-right anti-communist and anti-Weimar paramilitary organisation created after WW1, whose ranks included Ernst Rohm, commander of the SA 'brownshirts'. This rifle will partially strip and has moving cocking handle and trigger but will not dry-fire under latest EU regulations, and comes with one inert 7.92mm round.  Deactivated in the UK with certificate to UK/EU specification.

Our Price: £795.00

All deactivated weapons sold by Jaybe Militaria are deactivated in the United Kingdom and hold a London or Birmingham proof mark and certificate stating that the weapon has been deactivated correctly and is legal within the EU.
