Deactivated Mauser Gew.98 infantry rifle, dated 1918, Mauser made **SOLD**

This is the standard infantry rifle of the German Army during WW1, the iconic Mauser Gewehr 98, or more simply G98. The '98' relates to the first year of manufacture, 1898, and production continued till 1935 when it was replaced by the equally famous K98 carbine, both chambering the 7.92mm x 57mm cartridge. This particular example appears to be one which was supplied to Turkey by the Germans, who were allies during WW1. It bears Turkish markings to the buttstock, and has the Ottoman crescent stamped on the receiver above the Mauser factory markings, but is otherwise near identical to the German issue rifles. In good authentic condition, the woodwork shows a few repairs, and good steel retaining a pleasant aged patina, marked Waffenfabrik Mauser A-G Oberndorf A/N and dated 1918 on the receiver, and Gew 98 on the left side of the breech with various imperial acceptance stamps. Also comes with genuine cleaning rod (not shown). The 7.92mm inert rounds shown are not included with this rifle, but are shown to compliment this vintage rifle. They are available   seperately in the 'Inert Ammunition' section at £1.50 each, and will be supplied post free if ordered together.  Deactivated in the UK with certificate to UK specification.
