Deactivated World War 1 rifles
This is the standard infantry rifle of the German Army during WW1, the Mauser Gewehr 98, or more simply G98. The '98' relates to the first year of manufacture, 1898, and production continued till 1935 when it was replaced by the K98 carbine, both chambering the same 7.92mm x 57mm cartridge. This particular example is in good authentic condition with a lovely hardwood stock, imperial cartouched by the butt disc, showing the normal wear and tear of the trenches. Good steel showing signs of corrosion in places, marked Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken, Berlin and dated 1915 on the receiver, with many imperial acceptance stamps and matching serial numbers to breech, barrel, bolt release, stock, trigger guard, butt plate, rear-sights and both barrel bands, sadly not the bolt itself. There is one guide screw missing on the rearsights, and the original cleaning rod is damaged, however an interesting angled front sling point is fitted, original to the gun. Able to cock and dry-fire and fully strip, this is a very authentic example of this sought after rifle. Deactivated in the UK with proofhouse certificate of deactivation.
