This is the French MAS model 1936 infantry rifle, known as the MAS 36, designed in 1936 to replace the ageing Lebel and Berthier rifles from WW1. This example is typical of the weapon that equipped the French troops at the start of WW2, as production was halted in 1940, courtesey of theWehrmacht, and resumed where it left off in 1945 .  This particular example has an L prefix serial number, identifying it as being made after the retreat of the Germans from France.  It is in good sound condition, with good woodwork and a patina to the steel commensurate with it's age, and some of the original black painted finish.   Matching serial number to the bolt. Comes complete with built-in bayonet, and a leather sling. This rifle cocks and dry-fires, and can be field stripped. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK specification.
