The M1 Garand was the standard infantry rifle of the US Army during WW2, and the first semi-automated rifle to be issued by the US military. Introduced before WW2 to replace the Springfield M1903 bolt-action rifle, and chambering the same .30 calibre round though in an 8-round clip, it continued in service right up into the Vietnam War. Made by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, the serial number dates it to July 1942. As a late spec deactivation, this rifle will not cock and dry-fire, but does have the advantage of a sliding cocking handle, and can be field stripped to some degree as shown, and still retains all the self-loading mechanism. Very good woodwork, and good original finish on the steel, it comes complete with good quality repro sling. Winchester only made Garands during WW2 and not after, and so are far less common than the Springfield.  Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK specification.
