The M1 Garand was the standard infantry rifle of the US Army during WW2, and the first semi-automated rifle to be issued by the US military. Introduced before WW2 to replace the Springfield M1903 bolt-action rifle, and chambering the same .30 inch calibre round though in an 8-round clip, it continued in service right up into the Vietnam War. Made by the National Harvester Company, the serial number dates it to the 1950s and the barrel is dated 4 '55, though it is almost identical to the wartime produced ones. As a late spec deactivation, this rifle will not cock and dry-fire, but does have the advantage of a sliding cocking handle and moving trigger, and can still be field stripped. Very good woodwork with just the odd knocks from its service use, and good finish on the steel, it comes complete with reproduction leather hooked sling. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK specification.
