Deactivated Lee-Enfield SMLE rifle No1 Mk3, BSA made, 1914 dated with mag cut-off **SOLD**

This is the standard infantry rifle of the British Army and the forces of it's Empire during WW1, the  Lee-Enfield rifle no1 mark 3, made at the BSA factory. The butt socket is clearly stamped with the Royal Cypher of George V, indicating military issue, the maker BSA Co. Ltd, a faint date of 1914, and the model SHT.L.E. III. The furniture is in very good original condition, complete and undamaged, except for the usual knocks, fitting and matching very nicely, and with unmarked brass butt-disc.  Showing some excellent armoury repairs to the wood, it looks like the rear upper guard has been replaced at some point. The steelwork is also in very good condition, retaining nearly all of it's original blacked finish with no corrosion, and has matching serial numbers to breech and barrel, with the marking FR 1932 indicating a factory rework in 1932 at an Indian armoury, which would account for the fact that not all mk 3 features are present. An original and authentic example of this iconic rifle perfect for the reinactor or collector alike, with a lot of history. Generally known as the SMLE mk3, this rifle cocks and dry-fires, has a detachable magazine and comes complete with correct  brass-ended  webbing sling. Five inert .303 rounds are included with more available seperately in the 'Inert Ammunition' section at £1.50 each. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK specification.
