This is the standard infantry rifle of the British Army and the forces of it's Empire during WW1 and WW2, the Lee-Enfield rifle no1 mark 3, made at the Ishapore rifle factory in India. The butt socket is clearly stamped with the Royal Cypher, indicating military issue, Ishapore, a date of 1931, and the model SHT.L.E. III. There is matching serial numbers to the rear sights, barrel and breach. This rifle has original furniture, in very good condition with complete upper handguards, retaining the original brass butt plate and a plugged butt disc hole. The metalwork retains most of it's original finish, and of interest is the magazine cut-off feature. Generally known as the SMLE mk3, this rifle cocks and dry-fires, has a detachable magazine and comes complete with correct brass-ended webbing sling. The inert .303 rounds shown are not included but are available separately in the 'Inert Ammunition' section at £1.50 each. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK specification.
