Deactivated Lee-Enfield SMLE Mk3* rifle Enfield made 1917 dated **SOLD**
Deactivated Lee-Enfield SMLE Mk3* rifle Enfield made 1917 dated **SOLD**
This is the standard infantry rifle of the British Army and the forces of it's Empire during WW1, the Lee-Enfield rifle no1 mark 3, made at the Enfield factory. The butt socket is clearly stamped with the Royal Cypher of George V, indicating military issue, the maker Enfield, date of 1917, and the model SHT.L.E. III*, the * denoting wartime changes made to the mk3 to speed up production. The furniture is in very good original condition, with the not uncommon shortened upper handguard, done by armourers to prevent splitting around the rear-sights, and otherwise fitting and matching very nicely, complete with brass butt-disc. The steelwork is also in very good condition, retaining nearly all of it's original blacked finish, and has matching serial numbers to breech, barrel (also dated 1917), and rearsights. An original example of this iconic rifle perfect for the reinactor or collector alike, this particular rifle appears to have been 'sold out of service' to a Middle-Eastern ally, and has arabic characters on the breech and butt-disc, signifying foreign service after WW1, so a lot of history to this weapon. Generally known as the SMLE mk3, this rifle cocks and dry-fires, is fully strippable, has a detachable magazine and comes complete with post-war sling. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK specification.
