Deactivated Lee-Enfield SMLE Mk3 rifle Enfield made 1916 dated with mag cut-off **SOLD**

This is the standard infantry rifle of the British Army and the forces of it's Empire during WW1, the  Lee-Enfield rifle no1 mark 3, made at the Enfield factory. The butt socket is clearly stamped with the Royal Cypher, indicating military issue, the date of 1916, and the model SHT.L.E. III.  This rifle has all genuine and complete woodwork, Enfield marked, with an interesting mixture of matching serial numbers. The barrel, rear sights and forestock numbers all match, and the breech and nosecap match. It is most likely that the barrel complete with rear sight was fitted during its service life, as there would be no point to doing such a thing after its service life, and as the barrel is bedded into it's forestock, this would have been swapped over too to maintain good accuracy for the rifle. Lots of inspection/acceptance marks to steel and wood, and not a 'Drill Purpose' weapon. The metalwork is also in excellent condition, retains nearly all of it's original blued finish, making this a lovely authentic example of this iconic rifle. Of interest is the magazine cut-off feature, not normally fitted after 1915. Generally known as the SMLE mk3, this rifle cocks and dry-fires, has a detachable magazine and comes complete with correct  brass-ended  webbing sling. One clip of  inert .303 rounds are included, with extra rounds available at £1.50 each in the 'Inert ammunition' section, post free with the rifle.  Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK specification.
