Deactivated Lee-Enfield SMLE Mk3, 'Peddled Scheme' 1918, mag cut-off, ALL matched serial numbers SOLD

This is the standard infantry rifle of the British Army and the forces of the Empire during WW1, the Lee-Enfield rifle no1 mark 3, assembled at the Enfield factory in Middlesex, but comprising of components made by smaller engineering companies who were part of the 'Peddled Scheme'. The butt socket is clearly stamped with the Royal Cypher of George V, indicating military issue, the date of 1918, followed by the model SHT.L.E. III. To the left of the bolt is marked SSA, The Standard Small Arms Co, who made the action body. This rifle has all authentic furniture in very good condition, fitting and matching in colour very well and with full upper handguards and brass butt disc, and complete with magazine cut-off feature. Of particular interest is matching serial numbers to breech, barrel, bolt, forestock (very faintly) and nosecap. The rearsights have been swapped for the more desirable and accurate pre-1915 sights, with windage adjuster, and had the serial number restamped. The metalwork is also in excellent condition, retaining nearly all of it's blacked finish, making this a lovely authentic example of this iconic rifle perfect for the reinactor or collector alike. Generally known as the SMLE mk3, this rifle is fully field strippable, cocks and dry-fires, has a detachable magazine and comes complete with correct brass-ended webbing sling and 5 rounds of inert .303 ammunition. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK specification.
