Deactivated Lee-Enfield SMLE mk3 rifle 1912 dated with volley sights LSA made SOLD

This is the standard infantry rifle of the British Army and the forces of it's Empire during WW1, the  Lee-Enfield rifle no1 mark 3, made by LSA, London Small Arms Company, in 1912. The butt socket is clearly stamped with the Royal Cypher, indicating military issue, LSA Co Ltd., the date of 1912, and the model SHT.L.E. III. This rifle has all original furniture,  in super condition with only light knocks you'd expect for it's 100 year's age. The metalwork retains nearly all of it's original blued finish, with various inspection and acceptance mark stamps.  This rifle has all the correct features for a pre-WW1 rifle, including complete volley sights, magazine cut-off, and windage adjustment on the sights. The brass disc is stamped AS 353 O.T.C. and the rifle is marked DP in various places. This indicates, that most likely having been a rifle that served on the front line during WW1, it was withdrawn from active service due to excessive wear, and continued as a drill rifle. The fact that the butt and forestock are marked DP as well as the action, indicates that it saw service as it is now, and has not been restocked since. Matching serial numbers to breech, barrel, nosecap and rear sights, but not bolt.  This rifle cocks and dry-fires, is fully strippable, has a detachable magazine and comes complete with a genuine period leather sling. The inert .303 rounds shown are not included but are available separately in the 'Inert Ammunition' section at £1.50 each. This is a very hard to find example of this very sought after rifle. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK specification.
