This is the last of the line of .303 caliber bolt action rifles from Lee-Enfield to be issued to British forces, the Rifle no5 mk1, also known as the Jungle Carbine, due to it being specifically designed for the war in the Far East and Burma.Production began in March 1944, and finished in December 1947. Dated 1/47 on the breech, and ROF/F for the Ordnance Factory at Fazakerley in Lancashire, the serial number is consistant with this information. Very good hardwood furniture, and good sound steel with most of the original finish. The bayonet lug has been removed as was quite common on these carbines.
