This is a beautiful old hammer action sporting shotgun of side-by-side construction, made by James Squires, who made guns of high quality at his premises in New Castle Street, London, in the late 1800s. The lettering is hard to read between the barrels, but there are clearer markings on the beautifully engraved action sides.  Classic hardwood furniture with lovely grain in good condition for age, with just a small piece of wood missing from the far corner of the buttstock, next to the interesting wooden butt-plate, but this could easily be repaired. Extensively engraved action showing game birds and scrolling with an overall pleasant patina on the action and full 30 inch Damascus steel barrels. There is also an engraved plaque rear of the break-lever which appears to be gold! though I cannot be sure of it. This shotgun breaks with working action on both barrels, and can be fully stripped. Two inert 12 bore cartridges are included, with more available separately in the 'Inert Ammunition' section at £1.50 each in a variety of colours. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK/EU specification.
