Deactivated Italian Carcano M38 carbine, 1939 dated, early spec **SOLD**

This is the Model 38 carbine, originally developed by Salvatore Carcano in 1890 in Italy, and produced from 1891 till 1945 in various forms.  Carcanos were used by Italian forces during WW1 and both German and Italian forces in WW2, and the carbine gained infamy for being the weapon that was used to assassinate John F. Kennedy. Initially chambered for a 6.5mm round,  and loaded via a 6-round 'en-bloc' clip, this 7.35mm version was introduced in 1938 and designated the M38, to address the shortcomings of the 6.5mm weapon. With the onset of WW2, more rapid production was found easier with the 6.5mm weapon and ammunition, so M38 production ceased in 1940. On this example, the original hardwood furniture is in good authentic condition with just the odd knocks, stamped CAL.7.35 on the butt to avoid confusion with ammunition, along with a Terni cartouche and matching serial number, and the steel retaining most of it's original blacked finish. Dated 1939 on the right side of the breech, with the armoury stamp R.E.Terni on the top.  Able to cock and dry-fire and fully strip. Comes with a leather sling and a set of 3 original cleaning rods which stow in the butt, but inert rounds not included. Deactivated in the UK with proofhouse certificate of deactivation.

 Our price: £545.00
