This is the final variant of the British Lee-Enfield SMLE mk3*, built at R.F.I, the Rifle Factory Ishapore in India. The major change is that it is chambered for the Nato 7.62mm cartridge and features the necessary changes to the bolt and magazine to handle this round. Other changes include an alloy cupped buttplate and squared off nose-cap. This example is in excellent condition, with matching serial number to breech, bolt, barrel and rear-sights, marked clearly with the post-independence 'ashoka' symbol on the butt socket instead of the British Crown, above Rifle 7.62mm 2A1, R.F.I. 1966. Excellent original finish to the steel, and excellent matching furniture with correct butt roundel for post-war RFI. A very unusual rifle in super authentic condition.  Fully field strippable, cocks and dry-fires. Correct webbing sling and 3 inert 7.62 x 51mm rounds are included with this rifle, more are available in the 'Inert Ammunition' section post free if ordered together. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK specification.
