Deactivated German Commission Gewehr 88 rifle, Danzig 1891 marked

This is the Model 1888 Commission rifle, more commonly known as the G88, designed by the German Rifle Commission and produced by a number of prominent manufacturers. It was adopted by the German military in 1888 and used up till the first half of WW1 as Germany's answer to the French Lebel Model 1886, which used the 'new' smokeless powder ammunition. Chambered for its own M/88 8mm cartridge, also designed by the German Rifle Commission, later models used the newer 7.92 x 57mm cartridge of the Mauser G98. This particular example is in very good original condition, lovely imperial German cartouched hardwood stock and good blacking to the steel. Maker marked Danzig and dated 1891 on the breech with some Turkish issue marks, who were allied to the Germans. Matching serial numbers to breech, barrel and fore-sights (with missing slide), and regimentally marked on front barrel band. Comes with often missing magazine cover, and one full clip of inert rounds as shown. Deactivated to current EU spec so has full moving bolt and trigger but no dry-fire. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to full UK/EU specification.

Our price: £525.00

All deactivated weapons sold by Jaybe Militaria are deactivated in the United Kingdom and hold a London or Birmingham proof mark and certificate stating that the weapon has been deactivated correctly and is legal within the EU.
