Deactivated German Commission G88 rifle, Spandau 1893 made

This is the Model 1888 Commission rifle, more commonly known as the Gewehr 88, designed by the German Rifle Commission and produced by a number of promenant manufacturers. It was adopted by the German military in 1888 and used up till the first half of WW1 as Germany's answer to the French Lebel Model 1886, which used the 'new' smokeless powder ammunition. Chambered for its own M/88 8mm cartridge, also designed by the German Rifle Commission, later models used the newer 7.92 x 57mm cartridge of the Mauser Gewehr 98. This particular example is in good original condition, with a few knocks in the stock but no real damage, and a small imperial cartouche by slingpoint. Very nice patina to the steel with several imperial acceptance marks. Maker marked Spandau and dated 1893 on the breech, and regimentally marked on the barrel band, this rifle comes with one inert 7.92mm round.  Deactivated to current EU spec, so full working bolt and trigger but no dry-fire. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to full UK/EU specification.

Our price: £525.00

All deactivated weapons sold by Jaybe Militaria are deactivated in the United Kingdom and hold a London or Birmingham proof mark and certificate stating that the weapon has been deactivated correctly and is legal within the EU.
