This is the French MAS model 1936 infantry rifle, designed in 1936 to replace the ageing Lebel and Berthier rifles from WW1. Chambered for a 7.5 x 54mm rimless round, the MAS was the last bolt-action rifle to be put into front-line service by a major power. This example is a pre-war made rifle, as identified by the serial number prefix of G, (when it is accepted that pre-war production stopped at L, then resumed when the Germans left), and also showing a date of November 1939 on a cartouche on the butt. In very nice condition, with very good and amazingly undamaged furniture, perhaps one that stayed in the armoury, with original black painted finish to the steel. Matching serial numbers to breech, magazine floorplate and butt-stock, and also the built-in bayonet, this rifle cocks and dry-fires and can be fully stripped. Comes with a french postwar leather sling. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK/EU specification.
