Deactivated Enfield P14 rifle Eddystone (ERA) made **SOLD**

This is an early WW1 .303 calibre Enfield Pattern 14 rifle, marked ERA on the receiver for Eddystone, a subsidiary or Remington, and known more simply as the P14. A service rifle used during WW1 and issued to the Home Guard in WW2, it was declared obsolete in 1947. These rifles were also popular for sniper use due to their greater accuracy than the SMLE. Typical of  the last examples of this rifle, it has no provision for the volley sights or regimental butt disc. Lovely authentic woodwork on this rifle, with just minor knocks you'd expect from a service rifle that's nearly 100 years old!  Very good original blued finish on the steel makes this a lovely authentic piece of history.  Marked DP in various places show this rifle was used for drilling (Drill Purpose) of recruits, so its service life was extended after it was too worn out to refurbish. A lot of history to this rifle! Cocks and dry fires, and is fully strippable, and fitted with correct webbing  sling. There is a small fitting missing on the bolt release lever, something that could be found easily at a military fare or similar, and that is reflected in the reduced price. The bolt does still operate fully without it, it looks like the tension spring has snapped and the fitting has fallen out. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK specification.
