This is a double-barrelled hammer action shotgun of side-by-side construction with side-lever breaking, with full 30 inch barrels, made by Thomas Turner & Sons of Market Place, Reading, Berkshire. This company existed from 1838 right up to 2012, though not at the same premises. I would place this example as being from the mid-late 1800's. It is in super condition, with lightly cross-hatched hardwood rear and forestock, though mostly polished away with use! and intricately engraved metalwork, and beautiful damascus barrels. This shotgun breaks, cocks and dry-fires with a very precise action on both barrels and it can be fully stripped. Most unusual is the leather cheek piece stuffed with horse hair. Sadly the leather has broken, but it is worthy of some restoration, and would make a fabulous addition to anybody's hunting lodge, mounted over the fireplace! Two inert cartridges are included to compliment this classic vintage hunting shotgun. More are available seperately in the 'Inert Ammunition' section at £1.50 each, post free if ordered together. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK specification.
