Deactivated World War 1 rifles
Designed by Ferdinand Ritter von Mannlicher in 1895 and manufactured at the Steyr works in Austria and Budapest, Hungary, this carbine equipped the Austro-Hungarian Army during WW1 and was still being used as a second-line weapon in WW2. Originally chambered for a 8 x 50mm round, between the wars it was re-chambered for a longer more powerful 56mm cartridge. The reworked rifles were marked with a 'S' or 'H' on the receiver, depending where it was done. Popular for its impressive rate of fire due to the revolutionary straight-pull bolt action rather than the usual rotating bolt, this carbine was a reliable and effective weapon. This example is in very good original condition with lovely hardwood stock and nicely blued steelwork, marked on the breech with the 'S', for a Steyr rework and a date of 1915, and Steyr M95 on the receiver. Matching serial numbers to breech, barrel, bolt and buttstock. An unusual axis-power carbine in lovely condition. Able to be cocked and dry-fired and fully stripped, it comes with a genuine period leather sling and an original charger loader, no rounds. Deactivated in the UK with proofhouse certificate of deactivation.
