Deactivated Australian made SMLE mkIII*, 1942 dated
This is the standard infantry rifle of the British Army and British Empire and Commonwealth armies during WW1 and beginning of WW2, the Lee-Enfield rifle no1 mark III*. This is a Lithgow, Australia, made example, marked 'MA Lithgow', a date of 1942, and S.M.L.E. 111* on the butt socket. In super authentic condition despite it's 74 years of age, with replacement upper handguards, and lovely cartouched and 1942 dated buttstock. Very good finish on the steelwork, and many Lithgow 'MA' stamps, plus other Australian component manufacturer stamps like OA on the butt-plate. Matching serial numbers to breech and barrel, also 1942 dated. This rifle is deactivated to the latest spec, so has full working bolt and trigger, a detachable magazine, but cannot be cocked or dry-fired. Comes complete with original brass-ended webbing sling and a full clip of inert .303 rounds. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK/EU specification.
