Deactivated American Springfield M1903 MkI with Pedersen modification, early spec.
This is a Springfield Armoury made M1903 mk1, a rare rifle being one of only 100,000 made to accommodate the Pedersen device that turned it into a semi-automatic rifle. With a serial number in the 1,146,XXX range, this rifle was made in 1919 just after hostilities ceased in WW1 and is otherwise identical to the WW1 production rifles. The Pedersen device lost out to the Garand M1 in the quest for a semi-automatic rifle by the US, and these rifles were returned to their original bolt-action, and continued service into WW2 and even up till the Vietnam War as a sniper rifle in the form of the M1903-A4. This particular example is in good condition, with good sound wooden furniture showing only a couple of knocks, though there is a crack in the stock rear of the trigger guard and a split in the front upper handguard, but all in one piece. Very clean metalwork with a grey parkarised finish, no sign of any corrosion. Dated 11-19 on the end of the barrel below the 'flaming grenade' symbol. This rifle will cock and dry-fire, can be fully field stripped, and comes complete with original M1907 sling, a clip of inert rounds as shown, and an original cleaning kit that stows in the butt (not shown). The locking screw on the side of the rearsights is missing, but this part should be obtainable on the internet. Deactivated in the UK with proofhouse certificate of deactivation.
