Deactivated American Springfield M1903 infantry rifle **SOLD**
| This is a Springfield M1903 rifle, made at the Rock Island Armoury (RIA), who made these rifles only from 1917 to 1919 during WW1. The barrel is stamped with a date of 2-27 at the muzzle end below the 'flaming grenade' military acceptance mark, showing it must have been reworked postwar. Officially adopted by the US military in 1905, the Springfield saw service in WW1 but was replaced as the standard infantry rifle by the semi-automatic 8 round M1 Garand in 1937, which chambered the same .30 cal round. However, the Springfield, in M1903 and 1903-A3 forms, remained in service and production during WW2, as the U.S. entered the war without enough M1 rifles to supply it's troops. It also saw service as a sniper rifle during WW2, the Korean War and even in the early stages of the Vietnam War, as the Model 1903-A4, paying testimony to it's fine design. This particular example is in beautiful condition, with very good wooden furniture, and very clean metalwork with nearly all the original parkarised finish. It will cock and dry-fire, and can be fully field stripped, and a couple of inert .30-06 rounds are included . Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK/EU specification.
