This is a Remington made M1903 Springfield rifle, a rare rifle being one of a relative few made briefly in 1942 , with a serial number in the 3,XXX,XXX range, before production changed over to the Model 1903-A3. Identical to the WW1 production rifles, it is dated 4-42 on the end of the barrel below the 'flaming grenade' symbol. Officially adopted by the US military in 1905, the Springfield saw service in WW1 but was replaced as the standard infantry rifle by the semi-automatic 8 round M1 Garand in 1937. However, the Springfield remained in service and production during WW2, as the U.S. entered the war without enough M1 rifles to supply it's troops. It also saw service as a sniper rifle during WW2, the Korean War and even in the early stages of the Vietnam, as the Model 1903-A4, paying testimony to it's fine design. This particular example is in beautiful condition, with very good wooden furniture showing only a couple of battle scars as can be seen on the left side, and very clean metalwork with nearly all the original blacked finish. It will cock and dry-fire, and can be fully field stripped, and comes complete with good quality 1943 dated reproduction sling. The locking bar to the rear sight slider has gone awol, but this part is easily found on the internet. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK specification.
