Deactivated Bren Mk1, Inglis made dated 1941, rare double dovetail
This is the famous British designed Bren Gun, based on a Czech design and introduced in 1937 to the British Army, where it continued in service right up to the Gulf War in 1991, although by then it had been reworked to fire the Nato 7.62mm round rather than the rimmed .303 round of WW2. This particular example is a Canadian Inglis built Mk1 (not Mk1M) in very good condition, with good sound woodwork and most of the blacked finish to the steel. Marked Inglis and Mk1 and a date of 1941 on the right hand side of the breech, this gpm has matching serial numbers to top frame and barrel release. Of interest is the cast in second dove-tail feature under the magazine for fitment of an additional sighting system, only put on the early Brens. Able to be cocked and dry-fired, and a degree of field stripping. A classic early WW2 light machine gun complete with genuine webbing sling, plus a spare Canadian marked magazine (not shown) with a couple of inert .303 rounds to load into it. Deactivated in the UK with Certificate to UK specification.
