British pattern 1907 Sanderson quillion bayonet and scabbard 1909 dated SOLD

This is an early quillion-type Pattern 1907 bayonet for use with the Lee-Enfield rifle no1 mk3 or 3* , better known as the SMLE.  The stamped details on the ricasso show a date of 10 09 under the Royal Cypher of Edward VII, 1907 for the Pattern, and  Sanderson as the manufacturer.  The other side shows  several inspection marks, bend test and broad arrow mark, so a bayonet not returned to service after WW1. The blade is in very good, straight condition, good tip and lightly sharpened edge, displaying the bright steel typical of that era. Both wooden grips are complete and undamaged, and good release button.  The early oval-stud scabbard is in very good condition, with the marks RE on the throat and acceptance mark on chape. Most of original blued finish under the remains of brown cammo paint. All stitching intact to the leather. A rare and lovely piece of history to compliment any WW1 SMLE.
