British Pattern 1887 mkIII Martini-Henry bayonet and scabbard

This is a Pattern 1887 MKIII bayonet, the version with no fullers to the blade. The blade is in very good straight condition with very good edge and point and just minor marks to the steel. The ricasso shows the date of 1889 under Victoria's cypher, above Wilkinson Sword Company London on one side, and WD below a broad arrow with military acceptance stamp on the other. There are also two inspection stamps on the spine. The pommel carries the number 7302 and the grips are black leather secured by two rivets, in good sound condition. The scabbard has brass throat and chape, both nice and tight, instead of the usual steel, and it is thought that these scabbards were issued to Indian troops. The crossguard and frog-stud appear to have Indian characters in support of this theory. Good stitching to the black leather, a lovely addition to any bayonet collection.
